FC MEMEX™ is an Enterprise Content Managment system that can deliver the stored contents of file servers that are located anywhere that High Speed Internet service can reach, to members of your organization that are located anywhere in the world, as long as they too have access to the Internet, all without using slow VPN technologies or breaching security devices.
FC MEMEX™ accomplishes this by leveraging the rock-solid connectivity provided by the FirstClass Groupware System, a product of OpenText Corporation. It provides local on-server indexing of files, and connects that server to the core FirstClass Server so that users can access the contents via the encrypted interface of the FirstClass client. Documents of nearly any file format are automatically full-text indexed. Based on this index database a powerful search engine allows users to look for documents using a flexible query language.

More than a search engine
FC MEMEX™ is more than a search engine. It offers compelling annotation and link options and helps to set documents in context to other documents, conferences, users or any addressable internet resource. Shared libraries of information can become true knowledge banks as users add notes and links to uploaded documents.
FC MEMEX™ offers: • the ability to download documents to the user's local computer; • the ability to upload new documents to libraries (when the user has appropriate permissions); • the ability to optionally open documents DIRECTLY ON THE SERVER for editing and saving if appropriate access has been provided (currently Windows clients
only); • the ability for administrators to completely manage the permissions of users
FC MEMEX™ is delivered with an appropriately sized FirstClass system to provide the backbone of the encrypted, secure content delivery system. Organizations that are already using FirstClass can purchase FC MEMEX™ as an add-on component.
